Latex Allergy

Latex Allergy- Latex allergy is an IgE-mediated sensitization to naturally occurring proteins found in latex, a kind of rubber harvested from the Hevea brasilensis (Hev b) tree. For people susceptible to latex allergy, the proteins in the rubber can cause a reaction within minutes of exposure. Typical reactions range from redness and itching to more severe responses like nasal congestion and asthma. The allergy most commonly affects healthcare workers and others who are exposed to latex gloves through their employment. Patients receiving medical care may also develop the allergy when they come into contact with latex in a treatment setting.
